What inspired you to become an entrepreneur or business owner?

Where I am right now is not where I thought I would be.

I received my PhD in Sociology from the University of Toronto in 2011, and held a couple of contracts both in academia and the industry for a time. Long story short - it was not great. There were weird and complicated experiences that told me I really was not where I was supposed to be. This is where the downhill slide started for me, when I realized these 'dream jobs' weren't my dream jobs anymore. I knew I did not want to work in academia or industry full time, but I didn't know what to do with myself and my career. I felt defeated and lost. And so, in 2012 I went to a trusted psychic that gave some insight and set me on the path I am now.

In May of 2013, I opened The Spiritual Spa so that I could offer Reiki Healing sessions and start offering 'Empathic Energetics' sessions, which combined Reiki energy healing with Empathic intuition. In September 2014, I found a new place that was larger in Niagara Falls, Ontario and I have been there ever since. I decided to work part-time in the university system and focus on my Spiritual Service work.

In 2018, I became a registered yoga teacher, and opened a Yoga studio in the lower level of The Spiritual Spa, called Shiva Gian Yoga (Shiva Gian is a spiritual name that was given to me, it means illuminates wisdom). My healing practice developed into many other things - so much has happened since I started this journey, and I continue to share and teach what I have experienced and learned to others. Being a Spiritual Entrepreneur and business owner is the path that brought me the joy and peace I sought in my livelihood.

What motivates you to provide your services?

Spirit (broadly) is definitely a huge motivator for me to provide my services. I am guided daily with respect to what to do and offer, and how to offer it. I am constantly living in a dialogue with the Spirit world, embodying my gifts so that I can make the best decisions for myself and the Service work that I do.

My clients most definitely motivate me. They are so grateful and kind, telling me about the impact that I have made in their lives with the insight and healing I offer. I am humbled and honored that I am a part of their journey, that they’ve chosen me as a guiding light, so to speak. To me that’s very special. It’s not easy for people to expose their vulnerabilities and all of the traumatic things that have happened in their lives to a total stranger, and feel safe about it. Their feedback - and support of what I do - most certainly motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing. I learn as much from my clients as they learn from me. I appreciate this.

Moreover, the feeling I have within me after a day of Service, or an appointment, or even a five minute intuitive exchange at the grocery store with someone, motivates me. The feeling of grace, peace, joy, and a deep knowing that this is what I am meant to be doing, and where I am supposed to be, resonates within. This feeling cannot be duplicated or replicated by anyone or anything. It is a state of Being that emerges from Service work.

What ways will you elevate your business in the future?

In the last year, Spirit has incited me to start writing and documenting my insights and teachings. And so, at this time I have two books that I’m currently writing at once: #ifeelyou Living as an Empath and #bythefeelz The Empathic Psychic Medium, with two others planned out for the coming year - The Empathic Healer and Yoga for Empaths. I am also creating several online courses for Empaths that will be offered in 2020. I will continue to travel across North America teaching my courses and meeting Empaths to hear their stories.

Favourite quote?

My favorite quote is one of my own, which I call the Empath Motto:

“If it doesn’t feel right, it’s not right.”
